COLCHESTER GUARDS CLUB MOVE TO NEW GARRISON SERGEANTS MESS.
As promised in the January 2016, Newsletter, set out below is the information regarding the moved to the new Garrison Sergeants and Warrant Officer Mess. Our especial thanks to the Garrison Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant WO1 Craig Linday, Scots Guards, (who I am sure you will know as a member of our Club) for his personal representation within the Mess on behalf of us all and to The Garrison Sergeant Major and his Mess members for their kind invitation.
We have been invited by The Garrison Sergeant Major and his Mess members to use the new Mess on the same basis as the old one, that is to say, we will request that we have the facilities available to us on the first Wednesday of March, April, May June, July, September and December. Of course this will depend on the Mess being available on each of these dates but it is not at this time envisaged that there will be any problem with this arrangement.
Unfortunately there is no way in which the civilian contractors will agree for us to take food into the Mess, so the buffet will have to be abandoned.
We are currently, through Craig Lindsay, looking at the cost of having a buffet provided by the civilian contractors but it is felt that this will be too costly, however, we will report back when that information is available.
With regard to special events such as the Christmas meeting. We may have to look elsewhere to celebrate such events where food can be supplied at reasonable cost, this will need to be discussed at the AGM.
In the meantime, perhaps you could come up with some ideas to fill the meeting out. In the distant past, we have held a few competitions such as, bringing photographs of ourselves when we were very young to see ‘who can pick out who’, as well a squad photographs with the same purpose. We have also played Bingo for raffle prizes and maybe a not too complicated quiz, how about a race evening etc., please let us know your ideas and be prepared to run it yourself.
